Softball Struck by Lehman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College softball fell to Lehman College, 20-2 and 13-0, in a non-conference doubleheader at Mary LeVine Field on Friday.

In game one, Lehman (5-17) powered through the first three innings, scoring 15 runs on 12 hits.

In the bottom of the third inning, junior Hayley Adams (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) led off for Sarah Lawrence (0-14) and reached on a hit-by-pitch. After reaching third base on a wild pitch and a single by classmate Ariana Muoio (Cross River, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart), Adams came home as she and Muoio pulled off a double steal to put the Gryphons on the scoreboard.

Lehman capitalized on a pair of Gryphon errors to score two runs in the top of the fourth. Despite the second hit of the game by sophomore Lauren Gray (Sea Cliff, N.Y./Waldorf School of Garden City), the Green and White went scoreless in the bottom of the frame.

After Lehman extended the lead by three runs in the fifth, Sarah Lawrence answered. Muoio led off with her second hit of the game and took third base on a pair of passed balls. Senior Mackenzie Gassett (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) batted Muoio home with a single to left field, rounding out the scoring in the first game.

Gryphon pitcher Rebecca Kuntz (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Preparatory) struck out four batters in the game, while Lehman hurler Meghan Bravo tallied six K's.

In game two, Gassett made her first appearance in the circle and held the Lightning to one run in the first inning. A five-run second inning hurt the Gryphons' chances, and the visitors built the lead with 13 total runs on eight hits.

SLC was held without a base runner until the bottom of the fifth inning. Gray broke the silence with a leadoff single to center field but was eventually stranded 60 feet from home.

Gassett managed three strikeouts in her debut, while Bravo notched the complete game shutout with six strikeouts in five innings.

Sarah Lawrence travels to Purchase College on Wednesday and hits the road to face PSU Brandywine on Saturday, April 19.
