Softball Falls to Drew

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—On a blustery spring day, Sarah Lawrence College softball was swept by Drew University, 22-0 and 14-1, in a non-conference doubleheader at Mary LeVine Field on Thursday.

In game one, Drew (18-14) held Sarah Lawrence (0-20) without a base runner for the first 4 and 2/3 innings. One out from perfection, rookie Rebecca Somogyi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishiop John Carroll) stifled Drew's hopes and singled to right field for SLC's only hit of the game. The Rangers racked up 22 runs on 25 hits, including three doubles and two home runs.

The Gryphons fared better in game two, allowing just two Drew hits and no runs in the first two innings. Somogyi again had the distinction of becoming SLC's first base-runner, drawing a walk in the bottom of the second inning.

The visitors' bats lit up in the next two innings, and Drew pulled away with an insurmountable 12-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, rookie Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock) singled to lead off the inning. Sophomore Rebecca Kuntz (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Preparatory) and first year Jocilyn Pak (Englewood Cliffs, N.J./Bergen Technical) drew bases on balls before Chafatelli crossed home plate on a wild pitch, scoring the only Gryphon run. Drew rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Drew's Kristin Zeigler tossed the one-hitter in game one, striking out seven. Emma Agostini tossed the nightcap, racking up seven strikeouts against three walks and an earned run.

SLC's Somogyi and Kuntz each hurled one game from the circle with Kuntz notching the only Ranger strikeout.

Sarah Lawrence plays its regular-season home finale on Saturday against Brooklyn College.
