Sheehan Named HVIAC Co-Coach of the Year

NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College softball coach Chelsea Sheehan has been named Co-Coach of the Year by the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as announced by the league following the 2014 HVIAC Softball Championship.

In her season debut with the Gryphons, Sheehan led SLC to a third-place finish in the HVIAC regular-season standings. In the HVIAC tournament semifinals, Sarah Lawrence rallied from a three-run deficit in the seventh inning before being eliminated by a single run in an extra-inning affair.

Under her leadership, the Green and White scored 34 runs against non-conference opponents, compared to just 10 in 2013. Sheehan's Gryphons improved their hit count by more than 50%, while holding opponents to 161 fewer hits this season.

Sheehan shares the honor with Yeshiva University head coach Steve Schucker, also in his first year as a varsity head coach.
