Meet ResultsTHROGGS NECK, N.Y.—Making the team's debut in the league, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming captured second place at the 2015 Skyline Women's Swimming Championships, hosted by Maritime College on Friday and Saturday.
The women's swimming team becomes the first SLC program to put a Skyline trophy in the school's display case, corresponding with the College's first year in the league.
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) anchored the Gryphons as a place-winner in all four of her individual events. The rookie captured all-conference honors with a runner-up swim in the 100 breaststroke on Friday. Her effort of 1:12.34 marked the fifth time that Lawson has broken the team record in the event. She went on to take second place in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday with a swim of 2:38.96. Lawson rounded out her individual races with a fifth-place swim in the 100 yard freestyle (59.62) and a sixth-place, season-best performance in the 200 freestyle (2:08.67).
Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) also earned all-conference honors as an individual, following her second-place swim in the 200 butterfly (2:28.81). The sophomore captured third-place in the 100 butterfly (1:06.08).
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) scored a handful of team points for the Green and White, following teammate Lawson in the breaststroke events. Quirk finished both distances in fifth place posting a time of 1:20.06 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:53.94 in the 200 breaststroke.
Senior
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) placed in both distance races. On Friday, she swam a season best time of 12:18.89 in the 1000 freestyle to earn fifth place. Then, on Saturday, she posted another season best, earning sixth in the 500 free with a time of 6:00.19.
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) was the team's fifth individual scorer, securing sixth place in both the 100 backstroke (1:09.54) and 200 backstroke (2:33.60).
Risica, Lawson, Harley and Quirk captured all-conference recognition with a second-place swim in the 200 medley relay. The quartet posted a combined time of 2:02.59. The same foursome partnered again in the meet's final event, earning third place in the 400 freestyle relay (4:03.58).
Rookie
Leah Myrtil (Boston, Mass./Elizabeth Seton Academy) swam a collegiate best in the 100 free and 100 back, while
Zoe Berg (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) set new personal bests in the 50 free and 100 free. In the 200 free,
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi),
Rachel Barkowitz (Dedham, Mass./Dedham),
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany) and
Sonia Abraham (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) all swam season-bests.
Other season bests included
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) in the 100 breaststroke,
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) in the 200 individual medley and
Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) in the 100 backstroke.
With 209 points, Mount Saint Mary College won its fourth-straight title and sixth in the last eight seasons. SLC scored 49 points, followed closely by St. Joseph's College Long Island (41). Host Maritime College (34), Purchase College (10), College of Mount Saint Vincent (7) and SUNY College at Old Westbury (2) rounded out the field.
Sarah Lawrence concludes the season at the 2015 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, February 18-21, at the Webster Aquatic Center in Rochester, N.Y.
