EDGE OF GLORYWith two matches left in the regular season, Sarah Lawrence is on the verge of earning the College's first-ever Skyline postseason berth. In the school's first year of postseason eligibility, SLC needs one more victory or a loss by both Purchase College and Mount Saint Mary College to seal a spot in the league semifinals.
PERFECT STARTSarah Lawrence won all three doubles matches, but a pair of Gryphon tandems escaped flawlessly. At No. 2 doubles, senior
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and junior
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) won their 32nd match together, 8-0. In the No. 3 match, seniors
Sarah Fiordaliso (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) and
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) were triumphant, 8-0. Fiordaliso and Garber became the second doubles team (after Atkinson and Slade in 2013) to begin a season 10-0.
FROM THE RECORD BOOKFiordaliso and Garber broke into the record book as the third doubles pair in program history (since 1989) to win 10 doubles matches in a season. Atkinson and Slade were 15-0 as a team in 2013, and in '05, Georgia Bendat and Fran Hartmann finished 10-1 as a pair.
MEANWHILE…Back in the present, senior
Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif./Cleveland Humanities Magnet) and sophomore
Sofia Reh (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) needed a little more time to win the No. 1 doubles match. After falling behind early, the Gryphons pulled out an 8-6 victory.
SINGLES SWEPTIn singles play, junior
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) won the Gryphons' first individual point with a 6-0, 6-0 rout of her No. 6 singles opponent. Garber followed close behind, winning the No. 5 match by an identical 6-0, 6-0 margin. Garber improved to 2-0 in singles play this season, and her win clinched the team victory for Sarah Lawrence.

The final match on the courts was the No. 1 singles match in which Landes went to a tiebreaker at 7-7. The match was the senior Gryphon's third-straight with a tiebreaker, and she calmly put away her opponent 8-7 (7-2).
