SLC wins two of 13 events
LAWSON WINS BREASTSTROKE EVENTSIn her second season,
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) picked up wins in both of the day's breaststroke events. In the 100 yard breaststroke, she touched the wall in 1:11.73, 1.2 seconds better than her closest opponent. Lawson then cruised to victory in the 200 breaststroke with a swim of 2:34.74, nearly three seconds ahead of the field. The sophomore Gryphon also led the team in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:28.36.
HIGH-FLYING GRYPHONSenior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) began her final season by posting the team's best time in both butterfly events. She posted a career-best time of 2:46.13 in the 200 yard butterfly. Then, in the 100 butterfly, Amberchan led the team with a time of 1:12.74.
CAREER BESTS WITH SEASON FIRSTSThree Gryphons swam a total of four career-bests with their season debut. In addition to Amberchan's personal best in the 200 butterfly, sophomore
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) posted a career best in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.33. Competing as lead-off leg in both relay events, Kroll recorded a 100 free leg of 1:05.78 for another personal best.
The team's final personal record came in the 200 yard freestyle. Sophomore
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi) posted the team's best swim in the event with a career best of 2:27.72.
QUIRK'S QUICK SWIMSJacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) led the team in two sprint events. The junior Gryphon placed fifth in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 28.18, and she had the team's fastest 100 freestyle time with a lead-off split of 1:01.89 in the 400 free relay.
ROOKIE DEBUTSTwo newcomers made their collegiate debut in Saturday's meet.
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) had the Gryphons' fastest times in the 500 freestyle (5:46.10) and 100 backstroke (1:05.10), placing fourth in both events.
Kiki Michaan (New York, N.Y./Saint Ann's School) also made her collegiate debut with a pair of freestyle swims.
UP NEXTSarah Lawrence will begin a series of home events starting on October 31. The Gryphons host their annual Sprint Carnival on Halloween, and SLC takes to its home pool on the subsequent three Saturdays.
