BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming was dealt its first loss of the season, as the Gryphons were defeated by Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College, 102-84, at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.

RALLY FALLS SHORTAfter Mount Saint Mary picked up wins in the 400 yard medley relay and 1,650 freestyle, the Knights took a 17-points advantage. MSMC led by as many as 23 points, 55-32 after six events. The Gryphons closed the gap to two, 79-77 with two events remaining, but the visitors pulled out two more wins to secure victory.
MARTINEZ WINS THREESenior
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) had a flawless performance, winning all of three of his events for the second meet in a row. The Skyline Swimmer of the Week was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle (1:55.06), 200 butterfly (1:57.69) and 500 freestyle (5:08.34). Martinez broke his own 500 free team record by 5.63 seconds and his other two races were season-bests. He has won his last eight individual races.
LEE PICKS UP A WINRookie
Anthony Lee (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) earned his fifth career individual win with his winning swim in the 100 yard freestyle (52.74). Despite missing his personal best, Lee dominated the field with a winning margin of more than 4.5 seconds. The reigning Skyline Rookie of the Week also recorded runner-up finishes in the 50 free (23.48) and 200 backstroke (2:23.55). Lee's backstroke time put him at No. 2 on SLC's all-time performance list.
RUNNER-UP RELAYIn the day's first race, rookies
Callum Bayle-Spence (Brooklyn, N.Y./Friends Seminary),
Dimitri Popovic (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant) and
Shaurya Chawla (New Delhi, India/Pathways World School) were joined by junior
Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) to earn second-place in the 400 medley relay (5:39.89).
Bayle-Spence went on to earn third place in the 1650 freestyle, improving on last week's time by 14 seconds. Popovic took fourth in the 400 individual medley (6:54.88), cracking the SLC top 10 list in the event. Chawla swam a personal best in the 200 freestyle (3:02.11) and scored fourth-place points in the 200 backstroke (3:45.37). Ransom made his season debut in the 200 back with a third-place time of 2:50.01, and he scored a point for fifth in the 200 breaststroke (3:00.02).
GRYPHON ROOKIESRookie swimmers
Dawa Lama (New York, N.Y./The Beacon School),
Jack Langland (Ottumwa, Iowa/Ottumwa) and
Derick Edgren (Fort Collins, Colo./Auburn (Ill.)) combined to score more than a quarter of SLC's points. Lama was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.89) and had third-place swims in the 50 free (24.86) and 400 IM (5:18.40). Langland's day included a personal-best, second-place swim in the 100 free (57.28), as well as fourth-place swims in the 50 free (26.01) and 500 freestyle (6:26.83). Edgren rounded out the scoring with fourth-place and personal-best swims in all three of his events: 200 free (2:18.57), 100 free (59.64) and 200 breaststroke (2:49.52).
UP NEXTSarah Lawrence takes on Maritime College in the pool of St. Joseph's College Long Island on Friday. The Gryphons compete in their final home meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 1:30 p.m. against Old Westbury.
