Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.-Rookies Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Kamaron McNair (Lawrenceville, N.J./The Hun School) highlighted the day as Sarah Lawrence College softball began its 2015 season at the Snowbird Softball event at Grand Park on Monday. In the doubleheader, the Gryphons picked up nine runs off nine hits while falling to Morrisville State College, 13-4, and Southern Vermont College, 13-5.

In game one, Morrisville (1-1) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and Sarah Lawrence (0-2) responded by scoring in the bottom of the frame. In her first collegiate plate appearance, Vuyovich hit an RBI-double to right center to bring home senior Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo./New Vista) to score the first Gryphon run of the year. Morrisville extended its advantage to 6-1 by the middle of the second inning.

The bottom of the second saw sophomore Sarah Weldon (New York, N.Y./Millennium) hit to center field in her first at-bat and succeeded in rounding the bases for a run. Rookie Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) reached base and scored on a sac-fly by classmate McNair. First year Em Hammett (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School) also notched a hit with her first career plate appearance.

In the third inning, Morrisville broke open the game, 9-3, while Vuyovich recorded another double before crossing the plate for the Gryphons' fourth and final run of the game. She became just the third SLC player in the NCAA era to hit a pair of two-baggers in one game.

Junior pitcher Rebecca Somogyi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishiop John Carroll) finished the game with three strikeouts. Morrisville, Erika Kenney earned the win with three K's and two earned runs.

In the second game, SLC held Southern Vermont (1-1) to one run in the top of the first, and the Gryphons took their first lead of the season in the bottom of the inning. Senior Hayley Adams (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) had the only hit for the Green and White in the inning, but the team capitalized on five walks. Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock), Vuyovich, Weldon and Emalani Spentzouris rounded the bases to give SLC a 4-1 edge.

After a scoreless second inning, the Mountaineers scored another run in the third inning and tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth.

The Gryphons regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Vuyovich hit her third double of the day and stole third base before Weldon brought her home on an RBI-single; SLC led 5-4.

In the end, the Mountaineers scored nine runs in the fifth inning and kept the Gryphons from crossing the plate again, clinching the 13-5 final.

Making her debut in the circle, McNair put herself firmly in the SLC record book by tallying a program-record nine strikeouts in the game. Emily Fleming picked up the win, allowing only one run in her four innings at work.

Sarah Lawrence continues action on Tuesday, facing Albright College followed by a rematch with Southern Vermont.
