Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Rookie
Kamaron McNair (Lawrenceville, N.J./The Hun School) lined a single into center field to score the walk-off run, leading Sarah Lawrence College to a win over Yeshiva University, 7-6, in a non-conference game at Mary LeVine Field on Tuesday.
After giving up two runs in the top of the inning, Sarah Lawrence (1-18) evened up the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The first three Gryphons to bat all reached base, led by rookies
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and
Em Hammett (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School). Senior
Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo./New Vista) loaded the bases on a walk before McNair batted in her first run of the day on a fielder's choice. Senior
Hayley Adams (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) later batted in Himes to tie the game at 2-2.
Yeshiva (2-7) regained an edge with a run in the top of the second inning.
Vuyovich came to bat in the second inning and smashed her first collegiate home run over the center field fence, tying the game again, 3-3. Yeshiva retook the lead on a run in the third and extended the advantage to 6-3 in the fourth inning.
Junior
Rebecca Somogyi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishiop John Carroll) was the first Gryphon on base in the bottom of the fourth. Rookie
Isabel Lamont (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and junior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) hit back-to-back singles to load the bags again for the Green and White. Hammett recorded her first career sacrifice fly to score a run, and a Maccabee throwing error scored two other Gryphons, leveling the score at 6-6.
The Sarah Lawrence defense dismissed Yeshiva in order in the fifth inning. On offense, Adams had her first double of the season but was eventually putout trying to advance home. Darkness encroached on the field, and the umpires ruled that the waning light was sufficient for one final inning of play.
In the sixth, SLC gave up a hit but kept Yeshiva from scoring, giving the Gryphons one last chance to score a go-ahead run. After the first Gryphon was punched out, rookie
Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) reached first base safely. Hammett had her first hit of the game to put a second runner on base, but Yeshiva picked up a second out with a force at third base. With two outs, McNair came to the plate and put a shot just over the head of the shortstop, bringing Hammett to the plate from second base for the game-winning run and the Gryphons' first taste of victory this season.
McNair batted in at least two runs for a team-high third time this season and starred in the circle, striking out eight while yielding just four earned runs on seven hits. Her eight K's matched the second-most in the program record book, trailing only her nine-strikeout effort in her debut game in March.
For Yeshiva, Hannah Dubin hit 2-for-3, while Merav Saden Barach had two runs, and Rachel Mirsky batted in two. Mirsky pitched the complete game, tallying two strikeouts against six hits, three walks and two earned runs.
Sarah Lawrence will host three doubleheaders later this week, as Skyline foes Mount Saint Mary, Farmingdale State, and Old Westbury come to Bronxville, Thursday through Saturday.
