Box Score 2 BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—On Friday, Sarah Lawrence College softball hosted Farmingdale State College in the second series of a three-day Skyline homestand at Mary LeVine Field. Farmingdale State came away with both wins, 14-0 and 21-3. The Gryphons' day was highlighted by sophomore
Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock), who entered the SLC record book as career leader in sacrifice flies.
In game one, Sarah Lawrence (1-22, 0-12 Skyline) was held to only four hits. Rookie
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) singled into right field in the first inning, while classmate
Kamaron McNair (Lawrenceville, N.J./The Hun School) hit into right center to lead off the second inning. McNair and senior
Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo./New Vista) had back-to-back singles in the fourth inning, rounding out the limited Gryphon offense.
On defense, Vuyovich played a critical role in turning a pair of lineout double plays in the game. Junior
Rebecca Somogyi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishiop John Carroll) corralled putouts at first base, marking the fourth game in history with multiple SLC double plays.
In the circle for Farmingdale State (15-11, 7-3 Skyline), Taylor Tedeschi struck out five batters while giving up two hits in the win. She handed the ball to younger sister Tori Tedeschi, who gave up two hits in 1.2 innings of relief. For SLC, McNair tossed her 13th complete game of the season.
Game two began with a long first inning that built an insurmountable lead for the Rams.
Himes notched the first hit of the game for the Gryphons, leading off the third inning with a single to right center. Vuyovich followed with a single into center field, and both runners progressed on a passed ball. McNair hit her second sacrifice fly of the season to score Himes, and Chafatelli batted in her first run of the game to bring Vuyovich home.
Rookie
Isabel Lamont (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) had a hit in the fourth inning but was stranded on second base.
In the fifth inning, Vuyovich was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. McNair advanced her to third, bringing Chafatelli to the plate. The Nashville native sailed a ball to center field to score Vuyovich on the sacrifice fly, her third of the season. The effort put Chafatelli in the program's record book as career leader in sacrifice flies.
Andrea Klarman struck out three batters, while Allison Dailey earned the win in her first pitching appearance of the season. SLC's McNair yielded just one earned run in game two, tossing 4.1 innings.
FSC's Klarman, Lori Michalowski, Lauren Fischer, Meghan Acton, Breanna Susa and Ally Mancini all recorded home runs in the series.
Sarah Lawrence concludes the weekend by hosting SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday at noon.
