Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College softball concluded its 2015 home schedule by hosting Lehman College at Mary LeVine Field on Friday. The visiting Lightning came away with the win, 13-5.
Before the game, SLC seniors
Hayley Adams (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy),
Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo./New Vista) and
Ariana Muoio (Cross River, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) were honored for their achievement and dedication to the Gryphons softball program.
Lehman (9-14) came out quickly with five runs to start the first inning. Rookie
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) hit her 13th double of the season in the bottom of the frame.
After the Lightning scored three more runs in the second inning, Sarah Lawrence (1-25) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. Sophomore
Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock) led off with a single to right field and stole second base to reach scoring position. A wild pitch put Chafatelli on third base, and Adams batted her home for the Gryphons' first run. Later in the inning, rookie
Em Hammett (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School) brought Adams home, cutting the deficit to 8-2.
SLC was held without another hit in the next two innings and trailed 11-2 entering the bottom of the fifth. Needing runs to extend the game, junior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) reached base, and Hammett followed with her second hit of the game. Vuyovich walked to load the bases, and first year
Kamaron McNair (Lawrenceville, N.J./The Hun School) singled to bat in the Gryphons' third run. Chafatelli batted in two more runs, and the Gryphons survived the inning, 11-5.
Lehman scored twice in the sixth inning and held Sarah Lawrence without a run in the bottom, clinching the victory.
McNair pitched a complete game for the Gryphons, striking out six batters. LC's Meghan Bravo improved to 8-8 with the win, striking out three batters with one earned run.
Sarah Lawrence travels to University of Valley Forge on Saturday and plays at College of New Rochelle on Wednesday.
