Box Score 2 TROY, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College softball made the program's Skyline Conference debut in a doubleheader against The Sage Colleges at Robison Softball Field on Friday. Sage triumphed in both games, 15-0 and 11-0, as the Gryphons began their inaugural season as members of the league.
Sarah Lawrence (0-12, 0-2 Skyline) began the series on a positive note, as lead-off batter
Em Hammett (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School) singled to right field to start game one. In the second inning, sophomore
Jocilyn Pak (Englewood Cliffs, N.J./Bergen Technical) led off with an infield single. Sage (8-9, 2-2 Skyline) racked up 14 runs in the first two innings and added another run in the third inning.
Pak earned a second hit in the game, slipping a ball down the left-field line to lead off the fifth inning. She would eventually be stranded on second base in the shutout. Pak's 2-for-2 performance marked the first multi-hit game of her career.
In game two, senior
Tori Himes (Boulder, Colo./New Vista) recorded a first-inning hit, putting the ball in play down the right field line. Rookie
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) followed the other way with a single down the left line, but the Gryphon runners were kept away from the plate.
After
Isabel Lamont (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) reached base on balls in the second inning, Hammett had her second hit of the day into right center. The Gator defense responded quickly to hold Lamont at third base, where she was eventually stranded.
The Gryphon defense played a cleaner game in the latter contest, but Sage still managed to plate six runners in three innings, adding a five-spot in the fourth.
Sage starter Rachael Lashway earned her first wins of the season, allowing just one hit while recording 12 strikeouts in six innings. SLC's
Kamaron McNair (Lawrenceville, N.J./The Hun School) had two strikeouts over two complete games in the circle.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday when the Gryphons travel to Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary.
