FANTASTIC FOURThe victory gives Sarah Lawrence its fourth-straight win, tying the program's longest winning streak since 2010. Sunday's match was the Gryphons' first against the Falcons, and along with a 5-3 win over John Jay, SLC has beaten two opponents for the first time in 2015.
ON THE DOUBLEAt No. 3 doubles, senior partners
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and
Sarah Fiordaliso (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) earned their second shutout victory of the season, 8-0. The duo has won five straight doubles matches, and Fiordaliso improved to 9-0 overall this season. Senior
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and junior
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) also won their doubles match, taking the No. 2 showdown, 8-4. Their partnership has won their last four matches.
FALCONS ON THE BOARDIn doubles action, Albertus Magnus got a piece of the action by taking the No. 1 doubles flight, 8-3. Zaida Velazco and Alicia Weaver combined for the win and cut the deficit to 2-1 in favor of the Gryphons. Velazco kept up her winning ways in singles play, taking the No. 1 singles match in straight sets. AMC's final point came in the No. 3 singles match, as Izzy Sabino won both sets.
A-PLUSAtkinson extended her winning streak by taking the No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-1. She has now won her last three singles matches and her last seven matches overall. Slade also added a singles victory with a 6-0, 6-4, triumph in the No. 4 position. Slade has won two of her last three singles matches including two 6-0 sets.
NO-NOIn the No. 5 singles match, junior
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) won 12 straight games to capture a 6-0, 6-0, victory. She has won three of her last four matches and has won three swept sets this season.
CAREER DEBUTRounding out the Gryphon lineup,
Gabrielle Greiner (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) made her collegiate debut in the No. 6 match. The senior Gryphon showed veteran fortitude and dominated her match 6-1, 6-2, closing out SLC's 6-3 victory.
UP NEXTSarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville on Wednesday. The Gryphons take to their home courts against the College of New Rochelle at 6 p.m. SLC is 20-2-1 all-time against CNR, and the Gryphons have not lost to the Blue Angels since 2001.
