BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming opened the 2016-17 season with a non-scoring meet against a squad from nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.

TOP GRYPHONS
Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)) had the team's best individual finish with his second-place effort of 2:46.21 in the 200 yard breaststroke. The senior Gryphon also placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.99) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (51.98). Junior
Derick Edgren (Fort Collins, Colo./Auburn (Ill.)) also had a top-three finish, placing 0.12 second behind Chu in the 200 breaststroke with a third-place time of 2:46.33. Individually, Edgren placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.93) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:35.11).

Chu and Edgren teamed with sophomores
Anthony Lee (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) and
Jack Langland (Ottumwa, Iowa/Ottumwa) to earn fourth in the 200 yard medley relay (1:52.10). First year
Sebastian Kleppe (San Francisco, Calif./Gateway to College), senior
Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale), rookie
Ben Behrman (Summit, N.J./Pingry School) and junior
Charles Philip Sheridan Allard (Fall River, Mass./B.M.C. Durfee) took fifth place in 2:15.31.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Chu, Lee, Langland and Edgren teamed for a runner-up swim of 3:51.51. Ransom, Behrman, Allard and Kleppe made up the second squad that placed third in 4:52.13.
NOTABLE SWIMS
In his collegiate debut, Kleppe placed fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:15.77) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (3:00.84). Ransom placed fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:18.20) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:17.77). Lee placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.51), fourth in the 100 butterfly (59.30) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (23.60). Langland earned fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:16.22), while Allard took sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:44.18). Sophomore
Shaurya Chawla (New Delhi, India/Pathways World School) had his best race with seventh-place in the 200 freestyle (2:55.37).
