EWING, N.J.—Sophomore
Anthony Lee (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) qualified for the 50 freestyle final to lead Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming on day one of The College of New Jersey Lions Invitational at TCNJ Aquatic Center on Friday. The Gryphons rank fourth after the first day of competition; action continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.

LEE LEADS THE WAY
Lee was the only Gryphon to qualify for Friday evening's individual finals. After posting a 50 yard freestyle season best in the preliminaries (22.48), the sophomore was seeded 11th in his final heat. Lee took a notch off his season best and finished 13th in 22.47.
RELAYS SHOW IMPROVEMENT
Both of the Gryphons' primary relay squads posted season-best times. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, senior
Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale), junior
Derick Edgren (Fort Collins, Colo./Auburn (Ill.)), sophomore
Jack Langland (Ottumwa, Iowa/Ottumwa) and Lee recorded a mark of 1:38.21. The effort was three seconds faster than the team's prior best this season and earned the foursome ninth place.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the team was 15 seconds faster than its previous season best. Lee, Edgren, Ransom and Langland put together a swim of 4:14.95 to capture 11th place.
NOTABLE SWIMS
Three Gryphons swam personal bests in the 200 yard individual medley. Edgren led the group in 2:21.00, an improvement of nearly a second and a half off his previous best. Ransom broke his personal record by more than seven seconds with a swim of 2:28.25. Rookie
Sebastian Kleppe (San Francisco, Calif./Gateway to College) also had a season best, clocking in at 2:37.38; the first year Gryphon also swam a personal best with his 50 freestyle relay split of 27.25.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Langland posted personal best of 24.64, improving his previous mark by a ninth of a second. Sophomore
Shaurya Chawla (New Delhi, India/Pathways World School) touched the wall in 32.03, more than a half second faster than his prior best.
