EWING, N.J.—Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming broke three team records on day one of The College of New Jersey Lions Invitational at TCNJ Aquatic Center on Friday. The Gryphons rank fifth after the first day of competition; action continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.

RECORD-BREAKING SWIMS
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) had the honor of posting the Gryphons' first new school record of the day. The junior Gryphon broke her own 200 yard individual medley mark with a swim of 2:14.50 in the afternoon's preliminaries. The effort qualified Lawson in third place for the evening's finals. Lawson surpassed her own mark again, touching the wall in 2:12.54 to capture fourth place overall.
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) also broke an individual record. In the 500 freestyle, the sophomore qualified 11th for the finals after a preliminary swim of 5:46.23. In the evening, Peal broke her own school record and won her heat, taking ninth place with a swim of 5:28.94, nearly three seconds faster than her previous best.
The Gryphons also broke their team record in the 400 yard medley relay for the second time this season. Peal opened the race with a season-best backstroke split, followed by Lawson, rookie
Naima Joy Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) and senior
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn). The quartet broke their previous record by over six seconds, earning seventh place in 4:11.68.
NOTABLE SWIMS
Mackrel was the Gryphons' third individual placewinner in the first day of action. The first year captured eighth place in the 50 freestyle, including a collegiate-best of 25.34 in the preliminaries.
Rookie Caitlin Adler swam a pair of personal bests with her times in the 200 individual medley (2:49.97) and 50 freestyle (30.68). Junior
Rachel Barkowitz (Fleming Island, Fla./Dedham (Mass.)) swam a 200 IM time of 2:44.07, a full second improvement on her previous personal best.
Rookie
Kaitie Dilan (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) swam a personal-best by 12 seconds in the 500 freestyle, posting a time of 6:50.73. She also had a personal-best backstroke split to lead her squad in the 400 medley relay. Senior
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany) bettered her 500 freestyle personal best by five seconds, clocking in at 7:21.45.
