EWING, N.J.—Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming broke five team records the second day of The College of New Jersey Lions Invitational at TCNJ Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Gryphons improved one position and rank fourth after day two; action concludes on Sunday.

FIVE RECORDS BROKEN
Three Gryphons broke Sarah Lawrence team records in Saturday's preliminaries. In the day's first event, sophomore
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) made a one-second improvement on her own record in the 400 yard individual medley. Her time of 5:06.80 qualified her for the top final in the evening session, when she took four more seconds off her record. Peal finished sixth in the event with a team-record 5:02.25.
Rookie
Naima Joy Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) broke her first individual record of her career. In the 100 yard butterfly preliminaries, she touched the wall in 1:01.67, more than a second faster than the previous SLC mark. In Saturday's A final, she swam a time of 1:04.66, good for eighth place overall.
The third record broken was by
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School). The junior Gryphon broke her own record in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.89 to earn the top qualifying spot in the evening's final. Lawson swam consistently, finishing the day with a 1:05.92 to earn first place in the event.
Both of the Gryphons relay teams also set SLC records. The evening began with a 200 yard medley relay consisting of Peal, Lawson, senior
Gabrielle Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) and Mackrel. The quartet broke their own record by two seconds, finishing in eighth place with a time of 1:54.97.
The team's fifth and final record was set in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Lawson swam a personal-best 1:59.50 to start the relay, while Mackrel, senior
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) and Peal rounded out a time of 8:23.98, five seconds faster than the team's previous record. The foursome placed third in the event.
NOTABLE SWIMS
Individually, Mackrel also had a standout performance in the 100 backstroke. The first year Gryphon qualified first after a 1:00.62 in the preliminaries, and in the final, she swam a collegiate personal best of 1:00.45 to capture first place in the event.
Peal's other individual event saw her capture eighth place in the 100 backstroke following a season-best 1:01.94 in the prelims followed by 1:02.40 in the final.
Junior
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) swam a season-best in the 200 yard freestyle with a 2:17.92 in the preliminaries. She finished 12th overall after touching the wall in 2:18.17 in the final.
Risica swam a pair of personal-bests, including her swim in the 100 butterfly (1:07.04). In the 100 backstroke, she qualified for the B final and placed 13th with a personal-best of 1:03.56.
Quirk swam a personal-best of 1:17.19 in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries. She posted a time of 1:17.77 in the finals, good for 15th place.
Rookie
Kaitie Dilan (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) earned points with her personal-best swim in the 200 freestyle. Her time of 2:33.58 qualified her for the evening, when she swam a 2:33.89 for 15th place.
Caitlin Adler had a personal best in the 100 butterfly (1:20.97), while
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany) swam a personal best in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.81).
