NEW YORK-Four Sarah Lawrence College women's swimmers have been named to the 2016 Skyline Women's Swimming All-Conference Teams, as announced by the league on Saturday.
Rookie
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) was named to the Skyline All-Conference First Team, while senior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton), sophomore
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) and junior
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) were named to the Skyline All-Conference Second Team.
The SLC quartet began the 2016 Skyline Swimming Championships with a runner-up finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Peal was followed by Lawson, Amberchan and Risica as the Green and White squad put together a time of 1:59.19, the team's fastest performance this season. The effort was little more than a second off the SLC record in the event, and all four swimmers secured a spot on the Skyline second team.
Peal's first team selection came by way of a victory in the 100 yard backstroke. The rookie posted a personal-best of 1:02.99, winning the event by 1.46 seconds. Her mark missed the Skyline Championship record of 1:02.50 by less than half a second. Individually, Peal added a pair of runner-up swims, finishing second in the 200 backstroke (2:15.70) and setting a new SLC record in the 1000 freestyle (11:33.59). In the program's second season in the league, Peal is the team's first student-athlete named to the Skyline First Team.
For the second-straight season, Lawson earned individual second-team honors for her performances in both the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke events. The sophomore placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a swim of 1:10.24. On Saturday, Lawson swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.89, breaking her own SLC team record with her runner-up finish.
Risica's all-conference selection is the third of her career after being named to the 2015 All-Skyline second team and 2014 HVIAC all-conference team. Lawson was also named second team Skyline All-Conference in 2015.
Sarah Lawrence next travels to the 2016 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College, February 17-20.
