GAME ONESage began the day with a three-run first inning and a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third, sophomore
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) singled, and McNair followed with a hit. Rookie
Olivia Henry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) loaded the bases on a walk, and first year
Baylie Petit (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) hit an RBI single down the left field line to score SLC's first run of the day.
Sage plated a lone run in each of the next three innings and two more in the seventh to round out the 9-1 ballgame.
Each of the first six Gryphons in the lineup had a hit in the game, including Henry, leadoff
Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and pitcher
Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington). Cunningham tossed a complete game, matching her season high of four strikeouts.
GAME TWOIn the latter contest, Sage took a 6-0 advantage into the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the frame, Penna led off with a single and advanced to third after a hit by Vuyovich. McNair scored Penna with the Gryphons' third-straight hit, putting SLC on the board, 6-1.
The Gators tacked on three runs in the fifth inning, opening up a 9-1 lead. Needing a run to extend the game, Sarah Lawrence made small-ball magic to stay alive. McNair took first base on balls and advanced on a single by Henry. A fielder's choice moved McNair to third, and the Gryphon came home on a passed ball.
Chasing a 9-2 deficit, SLC gave up another run in the top of the sixth, again backing into a must-score situation.
With the Gryphons down to their final out, Penna singled and Vuyovich doubled to put the much-needed run on third base. McNair came to the plate and blasted her second career homerun over the right-center fence, plating all three Gryphons and cutting the deficit to 10-5. Sage added four runs in the seventh for the day's final runs.
Vuyovich had two hits in the game, bringing her total to six multi-hit games this season. Penna hit twice for the fourth time this season, and McNair had two hits for her second multi-hit game of the young season. McNair's four runs batted in are a best for the team this season and one shy of her career best.
In the circle, McNair struck out a pair in the first five innings; Vuyovich filled in for two innings, earning a strikeout and yielding just one earned run.
FOR THE GATORSKatie Kovage struck out five batters and gave up one run to earn the game-one win. Katy Rimawi and Morgan Dunn both recorded home runs in the game. Dunn and Jessica Adams both hit the ball out of the park in game two, as Lindsay Brace earned the win with five strikeouts against five hits over five innings.
