Softball Scores Two against Undefeated MSMC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College softball scored a pair of runs in game two, but visiting Mount Saint Mary College came away with a pair of wins to remain undefeated in Skyline games following Friday's doubleheader at Mary LeVine Field.

IN SHORT
Mount Saint Mary def. Sarah Lawrence, 9-0 (5 inn.).
Mount Saint Mary (14-7, 12-0 Skyline) def. Sarah Lawrence (6-17, 1-11 Skyline), 13-2 (6 inn.).

GAME ONE
Sarah Lawrence was held to just two hits in the first game of the twinbill. Rookie Olivia Henry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) singled in the bottom of the second for the first hit of the day. Fellow first year Baylie Petit (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) also had a hit with her single in the fourth inning.

In the circle, sophomore Kamaron McNair (Lawrenceville, N.J./The Hun School) pitched three hitless innings before the Knights came alive in the fourth inning. MSMC racked up its nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits over the last two innings. McNair finished the game with three strikeouts.

Third-baseman Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington) helped the Gryphon defense with an unassisted putout to start a double-play in the first inning. Henry completed the play with the second putout at first base.

GAME TWO
MSMC jumped out to a 6-0 advantage before the Gryphons came to the plate for the first time. Petit singled again in the fourth inning, giving SLC its only hit to that point in the game.

Trailing 9-0 and in need of runs, SLC came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth and stepped up to the pressure. Junior Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock) received a free pass after being hit with a pitch, and sophomore Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) singled to left field. Henry had SLC's highlight of the day with a blast that struck the center field fence, scoring two runs and leaving the rookie Gryphon standing on third base. In the end, four runs by the Knights sealed doubleheader sweep and the Gryphons' fate.

The SLC defense picked up two more double plays in game two. With the bases loaded in the second, the inning ended after a lineout to Vuyovich and a shovel toss to Cunningham retired the runner at third base. In the fourth, the Gryphons held the Knights scoreless following another Cunningham-to-Henry double play.

Cunningham had the start in the circle but was knocked out early. Vuyovich was called upon to make four outs—including a strikeout—before McNair took over for four innings, striking out another batter. Vuyovich returned to pitch the final out of the day.

FOR THE KNIGHTS
Colleen Dunn picked up the win in both games to improve to 3-3 on the season. She had 10 strikeouts in the game-one shutout. Game two saw Dunn strike out eight while walking two and allowing two earned runs. Game one included a home run by Chelsea Dexter and Taylor Canto; Cindy Connoly homered in game two.
