NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College student-athlete Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) has been selected as Skyline Conference Softball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Penna put on a power-hitting display in the Gryphons' lone contest of the week – an 8-0 shutout victory over John Jay College. The first year Gryphon hit 3 for 4 with two doubles, her first career home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Penna slugged 2.000 on the evening, and her final hit of the day was a two-run walk-off double over the Bloodhounds. To date, Penna leads the team in runs (18), doubles (four), triples (four) and stolen bases (five).
