Box Score 2 BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's first home series of the season, Sarah Lawrence College softball shutout SUNY College at Old Westbury, 8-0 and 7-0, in a pair of Skyline games at Mary LeVine Field on Thursday. The feat marks the Gryphons' first-ever sweep of a Skyline opponent.

GAME ONE
After Old Westbury was retired in order, sophomore
Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) came to the plate as the Gryphons' first batter of the day. Penna worked the count full, and with the eighth pitch of her appearance, she launched the ball over the left field fence for the team's first home run of the season.
In the circle, sophomore
Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington) struck out two batters and allowed just three hits through the first four innings, preserving the 1-0 edge.
The defensive play of the game was made in the third inning. At third base, rookie
Mackenzie Mindish (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) caught a popup and threw across the diamond to double-up the OW runner at first base. The Gryphons have turned seven double plays already this season, three short of the program record of 10.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mindish led off with a double down the left line. Rookie
Kelsey Copley (West Jefferson, Ohio/West Jefferson) reached after taking a pitch off the leg, and senior
Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock) followed with an RBI-double to center field; Copley came home on an error during the play. Junior
Sarah Shapiro (Germantown, Md./Northwest) batted home Chafatelli with the Gryphons' third hit of the inning, extending the lead to 4-0.
Sarah Lawrence closed out the victory in the sixth inning. Chafatelli led off with her second double of the game, and Penna bunted for a single. Shapiro and sophomore
Baylie Petit (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) followed and each batted in a run to make it a 6-0 game.
Representing the game-clinching run, junior
Kamaron McNair (Lawrence Township, N.J./The Hun School) reached base with a single that fell into center field, and first year
Karissa McAuley (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie) contributed a single down the left line to plate the seventh run. Mindish hit her second double of the game with a walk-off shot to left field, securing the 8-0 victory.
Cunningham finished her fourth career shutout with two strikeouts, six hits and no walks over six innings thrown. Penna finished 2-for-3 with two runs, RBI, walk and stolen base. Chafatelli had her first multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with two runs, RBI and two doubles.
GAME TWO
The Gryphons' momentum carried into the second game, as Sarah Lawrence again started the scoring in the first inning. Penna's lead-off double was followed by an RBI shot up the middle by McNair, making it a 1-0 game.
In the second inning, Mindish was hit by a pitch and rounded the bases to score without SLC recording a hit in the frame.
Sarah Lawrence again did its damage in the fourth inning, when five hits turned into four Gryphons runs. After Copley singled to left field, Penna came to the plate to start a two-out rally. The shortstop notched her second hit of the game, followed by an RBI single from Shapiro. Petit hit an RBI double down the left field line, and McNair scored a pair of runs with a double to the same spot. Through four innings, SLC held a comfortable 6-0 advantage.
In the circle, McAuley and the Gryphons' defense allowed only three hits in the first five innings. Old Westbury loaded the bases with three hits in the sixth inning, yet McAuley worked out of trouble and preserved the shutout. Petit made seven consecutive putouts between the fourth and sixth innings, catching four strikeouts with a popup and a pair of plays at the plate.
Shapiro hit her first career triple in the sixth inning, and Petit batted in the final run of the game. In their third season in the league, the Gryphons earned their first series sweep of a conference opponent in dominant fashion, picking up a pair of shutouts.
McAuley notched her first collegiate win with the seven-inning shutout, striking out six batters without any walks or extra-base hits. From the plate, McNair was 2-for-4 with a game-high three runs batted in; Shapiro went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Sarah Lawrence travels to Albertus Magnus College for a non-conference series on Friday. The Gryphons return home to host St. Joseph's College Long Island on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The weekend concludes with a trip to Mount Saint Mary College on Sunday.
