BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - After two days of competition at Kean University as part of the Cougar Invitational, the Sarah Lawrence College swim team finished in fourth place out of six schools, finding themselves above Manhattan College and St. Peter's University in the final standings. Both Manhattan and St. Peter's are division one competitors, further solidifying this weekend as a great showing for the Gryphons.
The Gryphons had numerous top-three and top-five efforts in both the individual and team events. In the first event on Friday, the Gryphons took home a fifth-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with Keilani Talma, Krista Burgess, Josie Laur, and Katherine McKane finishing with a time of 1:45.51, just one second behind the third-place finishing Ramapo team.Â
McKane continued her strong season with fourth place finishes in the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breaststroke competitions. She then turned in her best individual finish of the event, a third-place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.55.
McKane, Talma, and Laur joined Genevieve Chiappetta for the 400 yard medley relay to earn another fifth-place finish with a time of 4:20.65. The foursome also took to the pool for the 200 yard medley relay, finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:58.05.Â
Talma returned to the pool by herself for the 100 yard butterfly, taking home a third-place finish with a time of 1:01.46, narrowly beating Kean's Kylie Tininenko by just four tenths of a second. She then secured the best individual finish by a Gryphon with a second-place result in the 200 yard butterfly event with a time of 2:19.84.
Chiappetta earned another top-three finish for the Gryphons, taking home third place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:21.10 and adding to her already impressive showing in the team events.
