WBB | Haymore Records Career-High in 75-70 Win Over Yeshiva


RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Kendall Haymore recorded a career-high 24 points, leading the charge for the Sarah Lawrence College women's basketball team in the Gryphons' 75-70 victory over Yeshiva University on Thursday night. 

NUMBERS
  • Haymore's night came on 50 percent shooting. The sophomore sank eight free throws and added a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with three steals and a block.  
  • Kumi Tamura put up 18 points, increasing her scoring average to a team-high 13.6 ppg. The first-year guard had four assists. 
  • Kimiko Katzaroff had 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds. 
  • Jordyn Medina tallied seven points, eight rebounds, and team-high five assists. 
  • Sarah Lawrence had 17 offensive rebounds, leading to 12 second chance points. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Yeshiva opened the game on a 12-5 run. Kendall Haymore converted on an and-one opportunity on the next Gryphons' possession, narrowing the margin to four at the 3:28 mark. A Katzaroff free throw nearly a minute later brought it to within three. The Macs outscored the Gryphons 5-3 through the rest of the quarter, entering the second quarter with a 17-12 edge. 

Jordyn Medina put the first points on the board in the second quarter, knocking down a jumper. Yeshiva kept the lead for the entire second quarter but never went ahead by more than seven points. Lexie Wingerter was fouled while shooting a three-point in the last minute of the half. The sophomore knocked down all three free throws, cutting the deficit to four. Yeshiva added two more points on the next possession then Kendall Haymore responded with a layup on the other end. The Gryphons trailed 26-22 at the half. 

The Macs began the second half with a 5-1 run. Sarah Lawrence ripped off a 20-7 run over the next five minutes, taking a 43-38 lead. Kumi Tamura was responsible for 12 of the Gryphons' points. The margin stretched to double-digits two minutes later. SLC went into the final quarter up 52-42. 

A 7-0 quarter-opening run from Yeshiva decreased the lead to three. Kimiko Katzaroff sank two clutch free throws on the next possession. The Macs fconverted on an and-one opportunity on the very next possession, making it 54-52 in favor of SLC. The Gryphons put together a 13-5 run over the next four minutes, swelling the lead to 10 with just three minutes to play in regulation.

Yeshiva responded with an 11-4 run, making it a three-point game with nine seconds left. The Gryphons inbounded the ball after calling a timeout at the nine-second mark. Yeshiva intentionally fouled Kendall Haymore. The sophomore stepped to the line and sank both freebies, sealing the victory for Sarah Lawrence. Jordyn Medina added two more throws with two seconds remaining for good measure.
