FLUSHING, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis was defeated by Cooper Union, 7-2, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Thursday.
Cooper Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after winning all three doubles matches. Gryphons
Cameron Basham (Los Angeles, Calif., John Marshall) and
Nathan Thompson (Portland, Ore., Lake Oswego) fought hard in the No. 3 match, forcing a tie-breaker, but the Hawks' pair escaped by a two-point margin, 8-7 (9-7).
Sarah Lawrence (2-5) scored both of its points in the singles portion of the match. Basham picked up the No. 5 match, 10-7, while Thompson won his fifth-straight singles match, 10-3, in the No. 6 slot.
Sarah Lawrence is on the road Saturday when the Gryphons travel to face Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference opponent Culinary Institute of America at 1 p.m.
