BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's final league match of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis shutout St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 9-0, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference showdown at Andrews Courts on Thursday.
In doubles, Sarah Lawrence (5-6, 4-1 HVMAC) wasted no time taking a lead. SLC juniors
Phil London (New York, N.Y., Horace Mann) and
Aman Banerji (New Delhi, India, The Shri Ram School) dropped only a single game in their 8-1 victory in the No. 1 match. Senior
Shotaro de Bourbon (Paris, France, International School of Paris) and sophomore
Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i, Parker School) blanked their opponents, 8-0, in the No. 2 doubles match.
At No. 3 doubles, sophomore
Cameron Basham (Los Angeles, Calif., John Marshall) and senior
Nathan Thompson (Portland, Ore., Lake Oswego) made quick work of their 8-0 rout of the pairs match, securing a 3-0 advantage for the Green and White with their fourth straight win as a pair.
In singles, London looked good in his No. 1 match, earning the 10-1 pro-set victory. Banerji swept his No. 2 opponent, 10-0, while de Bourbon followed with a 10-0 command of the No. 3 singles match.
At No. 4 singles, Warkus yielded a game, 10-1, while Basham cruised to a 10-0 win at No. 5 singles. In the No. 6 match, Thompson scored every point in the first six games of his 10-0 victory, earning his ninth-straight singles win and finalizing the Gryphons' dominant win.
Sarah Lawrence has a few days rest in preparation for the team's final regular-season match when the Gryphons host Cooper Union at Andrews Courts on Monday at 7 p.m.
