FLUSHING, N.Y.—In the team's final regular-season match, Sarah Lawrence men's tennis was toppled by The Cooper Union, 6-1, in a non-conference match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Monday.
The Hawks controlled the doubles portion of the match, winning at both No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Gryphons
Cameron Basham (Los Angeles, Calif., John Marshall) and
Nathan Thompson (Portland, Ore., Lake Oswego) were defeated 8-3 in the No. 2 match, snapping a four-match winning streak.
In singles, Cooper Union remained in firm control, taking wins in each of the top three positions, including shutouts at No. 1 and No. 3.
Sarah Lawrence (5-7) picked up its only point in the match when Basham closed out a 10-7 win in the No. 4 match, putting the Gryphons on the board 5-1. Thompson entered the day riding a nine-match individual winning streak but saw his run snapped by a 10-7 defeat in the No. 5 match.
