Men's Tennis Earns First Win, 6-3, over Webb

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons earned their first win of the season as Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis defeated Webb Institute, 6-3, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference showdown at Andrews Courts on Saturday.

Sarah Lawrence (1-3, 1-1 HVMAC) opened the match by winning two of the three doubles points. Junior Aman Banerji (New Delhi, India, The Shri Ram School) teamed with sophomore Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i, Parker School) to pick up an 8-4 win in the No. 2 pairs match. In the No. 3 match, sophomore Cameron Basham (Los Angeles, Calif., John Marshall) and partner Nathan Thompson (Portland, Ore., Lake Oswego) came away with an 8-3 victory to secure the team advantage headed into singles play.

Webb (1-2, 1-1 HVMAC) won the top doubles match with Jon Soja and Dan Dwyer earning the 8-2 decision.

In singles play, Sarah Lawrence's top player, junior Phil London (New York, N.Y., Horace Mann), earned his first victory of the season with a 10-4 pro-set win. Banerji triumphed in the No. 3 slot with a dominant 10-1 win.

No. 5 singles player Basham won a hard-fought match, 10-7, while Thompson earned the win at No. 6 with a 10-1 rout.

Webb earned two points in singles play, as Soja won the No. 2 match, 10-5, and the No. 4 point by walkover.

Sarah Lawrence will host Albertus Magnus College on its home courts on Sunday at 11 a.m.
