Match ResultsBRONX, N.Y.—Picking up the Gryphons' third straight win, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis achieved a 6-3 victory over Lehman College at The APEX Courts on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (4-6) began the day by taking a 2-1 edge after the doubles matches. Though Lehman (1-10) won the No. 3 match, 8-2, Gryphons
Andrew Thurman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston School) and
Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) picked up an 8-2 win in the No. 2 position.
At No. 1 doubles, SLC junior
Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) and senior
Nate Currier (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) clashed with their Lightning opponents, drawing an 8-8 tie and forcing a tiebreaker. The No. 1 Gryphons escaped by a narrow 7-4 margin to win the match, 9-8(7-4).
Currier returned to the court at No. 1 singles, and after winning his first set, 7-5, he clinched his fourth-straight singles win with a 6-0 second set.
Warkus won in the No. 2 singles match, yielding just three games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
In the No. 3 match, Thurman split his two sets, forcing a super tiebreaker. In the final points, Thurman pulled out a narrow victory, winning 6-4, 6-7(2-7), 10-5.
Rookie
Aidan O'Brien (Mansfield, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) won his second straight match with a straight-sets win in the No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-2.
Lehman rounded out its three points with wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 matches.
Sarah Lawrence returns to the courts on Thursday, April 24, when the Gryphons travel to face HVIAC rival Pratt Institute at the USTA National Tennis Center.
