In doubles action, York took an early lead by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

At No. 1, juniors Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) and Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) won the Gryphons' first match of the season. The Gryphons broke in the opening game and stayed in control to an 8-5 victory, closing the gap in the team scoring to 2-1.

York expanded its advantage with a shutout at No. 6 singles. Warkus picked up his second win of the day with a confident victory at the No. 1 spot. After breaking early, he held a 7-6 lead and won three straight games to clinch match, 10-6, and chip away at the 4-2 deficit.

Neufeld rallied to win three late games but was unable to hold on in his No. 3 singles match. With the Cardinals in front, 4-2, senior Andrew Thurman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston School) was unable to climb out of a hole in the No. 2 spot, and York clinched the victory, 10-5.
