Match ResultsEDGEWATER, N.J.—In the Gryphons' first-ever Skyline Conference match, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis was defeated by Yeshiva University, 9-0, at Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday.
Sarah Lawrence (0-1, 0-1 Skyline) was dealt a loss by the league's defending champions in the first match of the SLC's inaugural Skyline season. Yeshiva (2-1, 1-0 Skyline) won the 2014 Skyline tournament and was slated to finish first in 2014 in the coaches' preseason poll.
In doubles action, Yeshiva swept the three matches while giving up only four games. Rookie
Andre Garibaldi (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) and sophomore partner
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) fared the best of any Gryphon duo, losing by an 8-2 margin.
At No. 1 singles,
Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) kept it competitive against the league's 2014 Player of the Year Igal Mostkov. The senior Gryphon won five games, falling 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore
Aidan O'Brien (Mansfield, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) won three games in a 6-2, 6-1, loss in his No. 3 singles match.
The Gryphons return to action on Wednesday when they host The City College of New York in a non-conference showdown. The still-frozen Bronxville courts should benefit from unseasonably balmy temperatures; in the meantime, this week's match has been relocated to Queens, N.Y.
