BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the Gryphons' final match of their inaugural Skyline season, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis was defeated by St. Joseph's College Long Island, 7-2, at Andrews Courts on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (2-7, 0-6 Skyline) fell behind early, as St. Joseph's (3-7, 2-4 Skyline) swept the three doubles points. In the No. 1 doubles match, seniors
Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) and
Adam Neufeld (Bronx, N.Y./The Calhoun School) held their ground to force a tiebreaker at 8-8 before the Golden Eagles squeaked out the win, 9-8(8-6).
In singles action, Neufeld exacted revenge by defeating his opponent in the No. 2 match. After the Gryphon yielded the first set, Neufeld charged back to even the match and eventually triumph, 2-6, 6-3, (10-4).
Making his collegiate debut, rookie
Jasper Soloff (New York, N.Y./Trevor Day School) had a successful day of singles action. In the No. 5 match, he cruised to a solid straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 4 singles, junior
Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) won five games but was unable to pull out a victory, 6-1, 6-4.
Sarah Lawrence returns to its home courts on Sunday for a non-conference match against Lehman College. Action begins at 1 p.m.
