NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College student-athlete
Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) has been named to the 2015 Skyline Men's Tennis All-Conference Second Team, as announced by the league on Friday. He becomes the eighth student-athlete to receive all-conference honors in the Gryphons' inaugural year in the league.
Warkus has led the Gryphons by playing in the No. 1 singles position in eight of the team's 10 matches. He has also played in the No. 1 doubles position in all of the team's contests this season.
The program's career singles victories record holder, Warkus also leads his team in singles victories in 2015. He is the only Sarah Lawrence student-athlete of any gender to win more than 20 singles matches.
Warkus was a two-time Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference champion prior to the program's transition to the Skyline Conference. He won the No. 5 singles bracket in 2012 and was the champion at No. 4 singles in 2013. In 2014, he was named to the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-conference team.
Warkus was honored by the SLC Department of Athletics and Physical Education as a 2014 Alice Stone Ilchman Scholar-Athlete for his achievements in athletics and academics.
Sarah Lawrence men's tennis continues its season by hosting Cooper Union on Saturday. The Gryphons travel to Bard College on Sunday before concluding the season at home against Vaughn College on Wednesday.
