AGAINST EUREKAThe Gryphon bats had trouble warming up against Eureka, as the Red Devils posted a combined one-hitter to start their season. Rookie
Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington) singled in the fifth inning to give the SLC its only hit of the game. Four other Gryphons were stranded after reaching base on balls. Rachel Patterson earned the win in relief with two strikeouts.
AGAINST ALBRIGHTSLC rookie
Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) walked to lead-off the second game, and sophomore
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) followed with an RBI-triple, putting the Green and White on the board, 1-0. Though Vuyovich was stranded at third, the Gryphons dismissed Albright in order and carried their edge to the second inning.
Albright fired back with a big second inning that left the Gryphons in a double-digit hole. The Lions capitalized on five SLC miscues scoring only two earned runs in the frame. The Green and White re-gathered and shutout the Lions in the third inning.
After Albright expanded its lead in the bottom of the fourth, Sarah Lawrence was able to salvage the day with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Once again, the side started with a Penna walk followed by a Vuyovich triple; the sophomore became the program's first Gryphon to hit two triples in the same game. Rookie
Olivia Henry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) singled up the middle to score Vuyovich for the day's final run.
Vuyovich went 3 for 3 in the contest with a career-high seven total bases; her three hits give her 39 for her career, tied for most in SLC program history. Penna went 1 for 1 in the game, scoring twice and drawing a pair of walks. Albright's Riley Grenada had seven strikeouts in the win.
