Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington) and sophomore

IN SHORTSarah Lawrence def. York, 9-0 (5 inn.).
Sarah Lawrence (5-9) def. York (0-2), 10-0 (6 inn.).
GAME ONEIn the first inning, Penna tripled in her first plate appearance, while McNair reached and scored on a pair of York miscues. The second inning saw four more YC errors, while junior
Erin Chafatelli (Nashville, Tenn./McGavock) and sophomore
Em Hammett (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School) each batted in a run. Penna had an RBI-double and first year
Olivia Henry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) also had an RBI hit in the frame, putting SLC on top, 5-0.
Chafatelli and Hammett had back-to-back singles in the third inning. Sophomore
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Penna kept the line moving to make it four hits in a row; Penna's single scored the former two runners, extending the lead to 7-0.
Over the first three innings, a lone Cunningham walk put the Cardinals' only runner on base. The Green and White defense dismissed the home side in order in innings two and three.
Henry reached and scored in the fourth inning, and rookie
Baylie Petit (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) had her first hit of the day. Cunningham batted in a run, and sophomore
Sarah Shapiro (Germantown, Md./Northwest) had an RBI-single in the inning to round out the scoring in the game.
York put a runner on base in the fourth inning off a Gryphon error, but SLC sat down the final four batters it faced, closing out the shutout.
Cunningham became the first Gryphon on record to pitch a no hitter. The previous record was her own two-hit win two days prior. Cunningham struck out five, allowing a lone walk in her second win of the season.
GAME TWOThe Gryphon bats stayed hot in the second game of the series. In the first inning, Penna, McNair and Henry put together three straight singles to put a crooked number on the scoreboard to start the game.
In the bottom of the frame, McNair put the first Cardinal on base on balls but settled down to dismiss the next three in order.
Senior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) smartly avoided being put out on her plate appearance in the second inning, when the Gryphon advanced to first base on a wild-pitch third strike. The trio of Penna, McNair and Henry again strung together hits to score two more runs and double the SLC lead to 4-0.
On defense, McNair gave up her second walk in as many innings yet successfully stranded the runner at third base. Despite two singles by Shapiro, SLC went scoreless over the next three innings. Thankfully, McNair was unhittable; after walking two of her first seven batters faced, the sophomore captain sat down 13 straight Cardinals.
The game came down to a big sixth inning for the Gryphons. Vuyovich singled at the top of the order, and Penna reached on an error. McNair singled to load the bags, and Henry hit a two-RBI single. Petit followed with her first collegiate triple to score two more runs, and she came home on an RBI-double from Cunningham. Shapiro smacked her third single of the game and the Gryphons' fifth-straight hit, scoring Cunningham. When the dust settled, SLC's six runs were enough to secure victory by run-rule, 10-0.
McNair totaled five strikeouts in the game against two walks. While she was not able to pitch the Gryphons' first no-hitter, she does have the distinction of posting the team's longest no-hitter after putting out three additional Cardinals.
IN THE RECORD BOOKIn addition to the two no-hitters, two other Gryphons penciled their names in the SLC record book. Vuyovich took over as the program's career runs leader with 40, and Penna has tied for the career triples record with her fourth.
UP NEXTAfter 14 games over 10 days, Sarah Lawrence takes a much needed break. The Gryphons return to Skyline action at St. Joseph's College Long Island on April 2. SLC hosts Mount Saint Mary College on Sunday, April 3, at noon.
