Andre Garibaldi (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) fought off the Raptor sweep, picking up SLC's only team point in an 8-1 defeat.

DOUBLES
Bard started the afternoon by sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 3, senior
James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) and rookie
Alex Wah (New York, N.Y./Riverdale Country / Bay Sch. of S.F.) had their winning streak snapped, 8-1. In the No. 1 match, rookies
Matias Sanchez (Córdoba, Argentina/Academia Arguello) and
Ian Gonzalez (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) were defeated 8-2.
In the No. 2 match, Garibaldi and senior
Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) trailed 5-2 early in the match but rebounded to put the match back on-serve and take a 7-6 lead. In the end, the Raptors won back-to-back games for the 9-7 win and a 3-0 advantage in the team scoring.
SINGLES
Junior
Ben Dougherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) was the first Gryphon to fall in individual play after being dealt a 6-0, 6-2 loss in the No. 6 match. At No. 2, Gonzalez had his serve broken early in the first set but recovered to tie at 5-5. The two opponents squared off in a tiebreaker in the first set, but the Gryphon eventually was overtaken in his 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 loss. With the point, Bard clinched the overall team victory with its 5-0 lead.
In the No. 1 match, Sanchez had his winning streak snapped with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. Berry won three games in the No. 4 match, falling 6-2, 6-1. Wah was also dealt a singles loss, 8-2, in a pro-set match at No. 5 singles.
GARIBALDI PREVENTS THE SWEEP
In the No. 3 singles match, Garibaldi won back-to-back games to turn a 5-5 tie into a 7-5 first-set victory. In the second set, his Bard opponent reversed the trend, converting the last two games of another 7-5 set. In the decisive super-tiebreaker, the duo changed courts at 3-3 and again at 6-6. Garibaldi finally broke through by winning three of the last four points of his 7-5, 5-7, (10-7) victory. Garibaldi has won three straight matches and shares the team lead with five singles victories.
UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence is scheduled to travel to Skyline opponent Purchase College on Thursday. A win would guarantee the Gryphons a place among the four teams in the Skyline Championship tournament. On Saturday, SLC returns home for its regular-season finale against Cooper Union.
