DOUBLES
Sarah Lawrence earned its first team point with a victory in the No. 3 doubles match. Senior
James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) partnered with rookie
Alex Wah (New York, N.Y./Riverdale Country / Bay Sch. of S.F.) to earn an 8-2 victory. The duo improved to 2-2 on the season. At No. 2 doubles, senior
Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) and sophomore
Andre Garibaldi (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) fought hard to win six games, but were upended, 8-6. The Lightning won the No. 1 doubles match, giving Lehman a 2-1 edge at the start of singles play.
SINGLES
In the No. 1 singles match, rookie
Matias Sanchez (Córdoba, Argentina/Academia Arguello) picked up the first win of his collegiate career. The first-year Gryphon dominated his match and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2, triumph. Lehman re-took the lead with a win at No. 2 singles, and with rain clouds looming over the courts, the remaining matches played a shortened pro-set format.
The No. 6 singles match saw Wah fight to a 7-7 stalemate against his Lehman opponent. In a tiebreaker, the rookie fought through an evenly-played match, and the Gryphon came out on top for his first singles victory, 8-7 (10-8).
In the end, Lehman clinched the match with victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, winning 5-3. As rain began to fall, Berry's match at No. 5 singles went unfinished.
