LAWSON EARNS SECOND SKYLINE TITLE
Junior
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) triumphed on Saturday, winning her second Skyline title in as many days. The junior swam to victory in the 200 yard breaststroke to earn her second conference championship, adding to her 100 breaststroke title from Friday. Her 200 breaststroke time of 2:28.06 was less than a quarter second behind the meet record and clinched maximum points for the team. In her other individual race of the day, Lawson completed the 200 individual medley in 2:19.17, good for fourth place overall.
MACKREL NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Mackrel was named the league's Rookie of the Year after accumulating the most points among first-year swimmers over the course of the two day meet. On Saturday, she competed in the 100 yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:04.04, narrowly beating out her competition for third place. Her day also included a sixth-place effort in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.58. Along with the 28 points she scored on Friday -- including a victory in the 100 backstroke -- Mackrel totaled one point more than her closest opponent in the race for the rookie accolades.
RELAY RECORD
For the second time in as many days, the Gryphons were able to better one of the team's relay records. In the final event of the meet, Sarah Lawrence put together a runner-up swim in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Mackrel, sophomore
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), senior
Gabrielle Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) and Lawson surpassed the team's previous record by a few tenths of a second, clocking in at 3:46.54, to take second place. The quartet came away from the meet with All-Conference accolades in both relay events.
