JAMAICA, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis kicked off the 2017 season with a 9-0 shutout victory over York College (N.Y.) in non-conference action at York College Courts on Thursday.

The season began with a clean sweep of the day's three doubles matches. The 2016 Skyline Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Matias Sanchez (Córdoba, Argentina/Academia Arguello) began his sophomore campaign paired with classmate
Ian Gonzalez (Framingham, Mass./Framingham). The duo picked up an 8-3 win in the No. 1 match.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Garrett Hsuan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bard H.S. Early College) teamed with senior
Jasper Soloff (New York, N.Y./Trevor Day School) to earn an 8-3 victory to start the season. The No. 3 match featured rookie
Mehran Hicks (Hartsdale, N.Y./The Masters School) and sophomore
Alex Wah (New York, N.Y./Riverdale Country / Bay Sch. of S.F.), who swept their opponents for an 8-0 triumph.
SINGLES
In solo play, Sanchez yielded a single game in his 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 match. At No. 2, Hsuan was victorious with his 6-3, 6-1 decision. Gonzalez came away with the win in the No. 3 match, posting a 6-1, 6-1 result.
Hicks made his collegiate singles debut with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 4 match. In the No. 5 spot, Soloff blanked his opponent and escaped unscathed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Wah rounded out the lineup with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 6 position.

Sarah Lawrence heads to spring break with a 1-0 record. The team resumes competition with a home match on March 29 when the Gryphons host St. Joseph's College Long Island to begin Skyline competition.
