KINGS POINT, N.Y.—In the teams' first-ever meeting, Sarah Lawrence College men's tennis fought off the sweep yet was defeated by U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 8-1, in a Skyline match at USMMA Tennis Courts on Friday.

DOUBLES
The Mariners showed strong form in the doubles portion of the match, winning all three points. The top two Gryphon pairs each won one game apiece. Rookies
Dillon Collins (Southbury, Conn./Holy Cross) and
Colin Berg (Franklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles Academy) made their collegiate debut playing as partners in the No. 3 match.
SINGLES
No. 1 Gryphon
Garrett Hsuan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bard H.S. Early College) won a game in his loss at the top of the lineup, while rookie
Aidan Reckziegel (Montreal, Canada/Idyllwild Arts Acad. (Calif.)) also won a game in the No. 3 match. Senior
Arnie Welles (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) won two games in his match at No. 5.
In the final match on the courts, Collins put up a fight in the No. 6 position. He tied the opening set 5-5 before winning back-to-back games to close out a 7-5 frame. Closing out his first collegiate singles match, Collins cruised to victory in the second set and secured the Gryphons' only team point, 7-5, 6-2.
UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville on Saturday when the Gryphons host Purchase College at noon. The Gryphons then conclude the regular season at home on Wednesday against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn.
