Sarah Lawrence ends its season with a 17-17 record, its most wins in program history. Picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Poll, the Gryphons exceeded expectations, earning a spot into the Skyline Softball Championship for the first time in school history.
Following two scoreless innings in which Mount Saint Mary was limited to one hit, the Knights, the No. 3 seed, broke the game open with six runs in the third inning, taking advantage of three errors by the Gryphons.
Sarah Lawrence got a run back in the fourth inning, as Mikayla Cunningham drove a ball down the left field line to score classmate Baylie Petit.
The Knights plated three more runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory and advance to the next round of the playoffs.
Karissa McAuley finished with two hits, while Tiffany McBrayer and Hannah Akin had one hit apiece.
It was the final career appearance for Sarah Lawrence senior co-captains Cunningham and Petit. The duo will graduate being a part of the fourth team ever at Sarah Lawrence to qualify for postseason play since the Gryphons moved to NCAA Division III. The seniors were integral members of the softball program, leading Sarah Lawrence to an increase in wins each season.
