ITHACA, N.Y.—After the Gryphons broke four school records in Wednesday's action, Sarah Lawrence College women's and men's swimming bested six more records on Thursday at the 2014 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College. Sophomore Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) captured SLC's first-ever UNYSCSA title by winning the 100 yard butterfly.

Martinez's 100 fly title began with an SLC-record swim of 49.63 in the morning's preliminary swim, qualifying him for the championship final as the event's top seed. In the evening session, he had the third-fastest split at the midway point and took a quarter-second off his time to capture victory in 49.28 seconds. Martinez's time is an Ithaca College pool record and bettered the NCAA B Cut national qualifying standard.

Martinez and his teammates also broke two SLC relay records on the day. In the morning session, rookie Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)), Martinez, first-year Jericho Walker-Roberts (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) and senior Doug Rubenstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton) combined to complete the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:35.65, an improvement over their previous best set in December.

In the 400 yard medley relay finals, Chu led the team with an SLC-record 100 yard backstroke swim of 58.30 seconds. Walker-Roberts, Martinez and Rubenstein rounded out the swim in a team-record 3:55.62, earning 14th place in the event.

On the women's side, Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) surpassed her own team record in the 100 yard butterfly. Her effort of 1:03.42 was nearly two seconds better than her previous best, though she missed out on qualifying to the evening finals by 0.2 second.

The Green and White 200 free relay of Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn), Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and Harley broke the team record with a 14th-place swim of 1:49.35.

The same foursome rounded out the day by taking 14th place in the 400 yard medley relay, posting an effort of 4:31.24.

After day two of competition, the SLC men rank 14th overall, while the women rank 15th in the team standings.

Racing at the 2014 UNYSCSA Championships continues through Saturday. Morning sessions begin at 10 a.m. with evening finals at 6 p.m. Live results can be followed at tpmlphelps.com or with the Meet Mobile App.
