Sarah Lawrence Athletics Hall of Fame
Liz Stitzel '09 was a standout performer at Sarah Lawrence, where she was a four-year regional and zone qualifier. A three-year team captain, Stitzel competed in the highest of classes: open flat and open fences. As a first-year, she finished as Reserve Region Champion and Reserve Zone Champion in open flat, earning a trip to the National Championships. Stitzel was crowned Sarah Lawrence Athletics Newcomer of the Year at the conclusion of the season.
As a sophomore, Stitzel was named SLC's Athlete of the Year after representing Sarah Lawrence and the region at the Cacchione Cup, an elite-level competition in which each region across the country is represented by its regular-season point's leader. In both trips to the National Championships, Stitzel showcased herself as one of the top 20 collegiate riders in the nation.
Stitzel's success continued as a junior, finishing as the Region Champion in open fences and Reserve Region Champion in open flat. In her final year as an undergraduate, she was Reserve Region Champion in open flat and was a recipient of SLC's Alice Stone Ilchman Scholar-Athlete Award.
After graduation, Stitzel continued her passion to ride, joining the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Alumni Division. In 2013, Stitzel won her Regional and Zone competitions, returning to the IHSA National Championships, where she was crowned National Champion in alumni flat and Reserve National Champion in alumni fences.
