ITHACA, N.Y.—With three more team records broken on the final day of competition, Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming totaled nine broken records at the 2014 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College, Feb. 19-22.

On the final day of competition, SLC rookie Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) picked up her second individual record of the meet in the 200 yard breaststroke. She touched the wall in 2:48.30, taking four seconds off of the previous team record of teammate Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes).

Junior Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) broke her own SLC record in the 1650 freestyle, bettering her previous mark set at the 2013 UNYSCSA event. Bates finished the mile in 20:00.77, desperately close to the 20-minute barrier, but a personal best by a 15-second margin. En route to her record, she also surpassed her own SLC mark in the 1000 freestyle. Bates completed the first 40 laps in 12:09.52, four seconds faster than the team's best.

In the last event of the meet, Gryphons Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), Quirk and Bates teamed to complete the Green and White's fastest 400 yard freestyle relay. In the preliminaries, the foursome posted an effort of 4:01.74, and they returned in the evening to swim 4:01.18, good for 14th place and the final record of the season.

At the end of the four day meet, the Gryphons finished with 133 points, 15th in the team standings.

All told, the 2013-14 campaign saw SLC post its best winning percentage (7-1) on record, and the team rewrote over half the record board. The Gryphons won their fifth-straight HVIAC Invitational, and three student-athletes were named to the All-HVIAC squad.
