Friday Preliminaries |
Friday FinalsÂ
WEBSTER, N.Y.—Rookie
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) won her final heat of the 100 yard breaststroke and broke the SLC record in the event, as Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming competed in day three of the 2015 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Nazareth College at Webster Aquatic Center on Friday. Action continues through Saturday, Feb. 21.
Lawson began the day with a record-breaking swim in Friday's preliminaries. In the 100 yard breaststroke, the rookie touched the wall in 1:11.08, more than a second faster than her own previous team record. The swim slotted her 21st overall, making Lawson the first Gryphon to qualify for a women's final at the 2015 championships.
In Friday's evening session, Lawson dominated her heat of the 100 breaststroke finals. Improving her time by more than two seconds, she stopped the clock in 1:08.82—nearly two seconds faster than her closest competitor—to clinch 17th place in the event. The performance marked the sixth time that Lawson bettered the SLC 100 breaststroke record in her rookie season.
The Gryphons also put points on the board in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Rookie
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) led off the race with a personal best split of 2:21.38 over the first 200 yards. First years
