WEBSTER, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming broke four team records on the fourth and final day of the 2015 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Nazareth College at Webster Aquatic Center on Saturday.
In Saturday's final day of action, rookie
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) began the morning with an SLC-record breaking swim in the 200 yard breaststroke. She each of the four laps in less than 40 seconds, stopping the clock at 2:31.70, a full six seconds faster than her own previous school record. With the effort, Lawson qualified for the finals in 13th place, clinching the team's best individual performance of the meet.
During the evening session, Lawson returned to the pool and touched the wall in 2:32.33 for a 15th-place finish.
In the final race of her career, senior
Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) broke a pair of team records in a single race. She finished the 1650 freestyle in a time of 19:47.17, breaking her own record in the event and becoming the first Gryphon to break the 20-minute mark. In addition, Bates took six seconds off her record in the 1000 freestyle, completing her first 20 laps in 12:00.36.
The four-day meet concluded with the Green and White squad competing in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Lawson joined sophomores
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn),
Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) to complete the race in 3:55.17 for the ninth and final broken team record of the meet.
Saturday's preliminaries also featured competition in the 100 yard freestyle and 200 backstroke.
In the 100 freestyle, Risica swam a season best of 59.39 seconds, while rookie
Leah Myrtil (Boston, Mass./Elizabeth Seton Academy) posted a career best of 1:02.51. First year
Sarah Schnapp (Taiwan/Tzu Chi) and sophomore
Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany) also had collegiate bests, while
Zoe Berg (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) also competed.
Finally, junior
Sam Amberchan (Alameda, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) and first year
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) raced in the 200 yard backstroke.
The Gryphons concluded the 2014-15 season having broken team records in nine events, totaling 26 record-breaking swims on the year.
